Our congregation in Platte City was formed in 1847 under the leadership of P.L. Hudgins of Savannah, Missouri, and Elder M.E. Lard. The Church met for a long time in the courthouse until a neat and commodious plain brick building was erected in 1855 looking north on Oak Street (now Ferrel Street). During the Civil War, most of the town was burned, but the old church was spared and used as a place of public gathering.

In 1891, a contract was let to tear down the old building and erect a new one on the same location. The beautiful ceiling of the sanctuary, made of fine oil-finished wood is an old design, having been used for centuries in Europe. The original oil-finished birch benches are still in use. The bell that was used in the old building (purchased in 1868 for

$200.00) was placed in the new belfry and is still rung at the beginning of Worship each Sunday.

The new Church was dedicated on Sunday, May 23, 1893. This same church building with its unique and beautiful sanctuary, now listed in the State of Missouri Register of Historical Places, is still in use today.

An educational building addition was dedicated on February 12, 1954 with the first elevator install in 1983. Needing additional class and office space, the addition of Phase 1 to the building was dedicated on June 8, 2008.
